Warmth and versatility worth EVERY penny
I bought a pair of Pearl Izumi Amfib winter cycling tights four years ago in preparation for an epic Sweat & Ice Century in Saratoga County, New York at the end of November. I wasn't sure my leg warmers would quite do the job in sub-40 degree temps, and didn't want my legs to freeze up (pun intended) mid-ride. I hemmed and hawed in the store for quite some time, agonizing over whether to spend this much money and pay full price (as an educated consumer, I try to almost never pay full retail price, if I can help it!). As I saw those 100 miles through to end, chasing the last remnants of daylight lingering in the cold November sky, I realized my legs hadn't felt chilled once throughout the day and concluded they were a sound investment.
Four years later, these are still my go-to winter tights: be it short commutes to work on cold and dreary days, fun group rides on weekend mornings when the roads are clear and the rain clouds remain at bay, or true winter "ice biking" on the mountain-bike with freshly-mounted homemade studded tires to provide that extra little bit of needed traction on the trail. When describing the properties of the Elite Softshell fabric coating the front of the thighs and legs, I liken it to "Kevlar for cyclists"--protecting you from the wind, as well as extremely water-resistant. And its Elite Thermal Fleece fabric helps draw sweat away from the skin and vent it out the rear panels, allowing the material to breathe as you sweat and prevent that cold, clammy feeling.
Even better, I've gotten a ton of usage out of these same cycling tights cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, providing extra versatility when it comes to your winter outdoor sport of choice.
THANKS! - Jenn |
