Castelli Free Aero Race Cycling Bibshort Kit Edition Cyan Blue/Red/White
The road to perfection
A road well travelled by Castelli in their quest to bring you the perfect ride. This short made it's debut in 2007 and has since been put through it's paces on the ProTour circuit. During the thousands and thousands of kilometres of testing done by ProTour riders it has performed admirably, whilst being constantly refined in response to the valuable feedback provided. There are a couple of upgrades to this excellent bibshort for this year, although it is reaching the point now where it is almost getting beyond improvement. In the July 2011 edition of Cycling Plus magazine, the Free Aero Race went head to head with other top-of-the-line shorts from no less than 18 different manufacturers. No prizes for guessing which one came out on top and was named as the absolute best.
This year's line-up includes the new kit edition that will match up with the color co-ordinated Free Jersey, cotton racing cap, gloves and socks for that complete pro-kit look.
The Free Aero Race still uses the same three different fabrics in it's construction. Action micro fabric in the saddle contact area ensures durability, whilst a lighter weight Energia micro fabric on the sides and back provides excellent stretch and return for fit, compression and muscle support.
The Breathe micro fabric on the front of the short enhances breathability to keep you cool and comfortable. To prevent chaffing the Free Aero Race features no inner leg seam. The upgrades for this year come by way of the new improved Progetto X2 Air seatpad, with it's refined shape and perforations in the foam layer of the pad to increase airflow and reduce drying time. The new Giro3 single-layer engineered leg gripper provides a sure grip, seamless comfort and lies flat against the skin increasing aerodynamics.
Free Aero Race Bibshort features:
The now-famous Free upper bib leaves your chest free and open to avoid overheating.
No inner-leg seam.
Color-matched new Giro3 single-layer engineered leg grippers.
New Progetto X2 Air chamois for Progetto X2 comfort with improved airflow and pad shape.
2 reflective rear inserts.

Four fabrics provide technical attributes that set the Free Aero Race apart from the rest
Free Aero Race bibs and shorts feature Castelli's proprietary Energia, Breathe, and Action fabrics, with the bibstrap constructed in cool, breathable mesh.
Energia is a Power Lycra with horizontal stretch that supports the muscles and aids in recovery. LycraPower® has been scientifically proven to:
Reduce muscle vibration, greatly reducing muscular fatigue - enabling a higher level of performance for longer periods, relative to unstabilized musclesImproves cardiovascular efficiency - by increasing blood flow to the heart and reducing the production of lactic acid in muscle tissue.
Aids in the recovery of damaged muscles by reducing swelling, and increasing oxygen flow to area of injury.
Energia fabric also has a ribbed knit surface. Just as the dimples on a golf ball help it to slice through the air, similar irregular surface technology also improves aerodynamics in the world of cycling clothing and aids with the rider's ability to slice through the wind.
Breathe fabric makes up the front of the bibshort and continues around to the lower back, below the bib upper.
Breathe micro fabric is a power lycra which has an open weave design, allowing for increased airflow and faster evaporation from within the garment.
This will greatly assist with you keeping cool, dry and comfortable, no matter how hard you are working.
To maintain comfort and provide durability, all seams on the Free Aero Race are 4-needle flat-lock stitched.
Action fabric is a 210 gram microdenier PowerLycra with an 80% Nylon and 20% Lycra blend. The strength of Action fabric lies in it's soft feel against the skin, providing complete comfort, combined with it's high abrasion resistance and the durability this provides. This Action PowerLycra is used for the insides of the legs and saddle contact area of the short.
The Mesh bib upper and straps will keep your shorts in place beautifully, whilst being light and airy enough to keep you nice and cool at the same time.
The Bib on the Free Aero race is designed to be more open in the chest and abdomen. This maximises cooling, helps avoid overheating, and makes the whole garment feel less restrictive and more 'free' in this area - it's where the Free Aero Race gets it's name!
The bib front is also ever-so-slightly lower-slung, so it gives a little more freedom when taking a nature break too.
The Team and Kit versions of the Free Aero Race Bibshort come with a radio/electronics pocket at the rear of the bib upper.

The Progetto X2 Air Chamois from Castelli
Redesigned for 2012, to make you even more comfortable, the Progetto X2 Air chamois, from Castelli is now cooler and drier. This has been achieved by adding perforations to the comfort layer of the pad, allowing improved ventilation and moisture evaporation. Also, thanks to feedback from professional riders, the shape of the pad has been altered slightly to better fit to the rider shape in the saddle area.
Small steps for the Castelli Technical Team, but a major leap for the comfort of cycling mankind!

Giro3 Single-Layer Engineered Leg Grippers on the Free Aero Race Bibshort
Instead of stitching a silicone leg elastic band to the leg of the short, Castelli knit the grip material directly into a 2 inch deep single layer of fabric at the base of the leg. This is then 4-needle flat-lock stitched to the hem for added comfort, with durability.
This 2 inch gripper band has a more gentle compression than traditional leg grippers, whilst securely holding the short in place. This means that it will not bind, or leave that crease you can get on your legs after hours of wear.
The bottom of the leg has a clean-cut edge that will lie flat against the skin, for aerodynamic benefit. This style of leg gripper will still works well with your leg warmers on those cooler days.
Contrasting Castelli wordmarks are sublimated onto the gripper, and reflective tabs are included at the rear of each leg.
